Beijing All Clear of Covid-19 After Last Cases Leave Hospital

What’s new: Beijing municipal health commission said in a statement Wednesday that the city is officially clear of all confirmed Covid-19 cases after the last two patients, connected with the latest outbreak, were discharged from the hospital Tuesday.

The two patients were among the six confirmed cases that emerged after July 27, prior to which Beijing had recorded a 21 straight days of zero new confirmed cases after containing an outbreak linked to a local seafood market.

Beijing also reported zero suspected, asymptomatic or imported cases on Wednesday, the statement said (link in Chinese).

What’s more: Four of the last six cases, all with mild symptoms, were linked to the latest resurgence of the coronavirus in the northeastern costal city of Dalian last month, according to the statement.

The other two were imported cases, including one who was close to critical condition and was placed in intensive care for two weeks before recovering, the statement said.

As the disease has been contained in Beijing, the local government has lowered its emergency response level from the second highest to the third highest on July 20. Since then, the capital has also eased restrictions on social and economic activities, allowing, for example, cinemas to reopen.
